M12 draft #3 – Aggro deck

Hi guys! I’m going to show you one more draft, as I’m getting into M12 these days. I’m not that good drafter, so I asked help from Barker countless times. He always helped me, I’m very grateful to him, but I must learn to draft myself, so I tried to do something on my own.

When you open some crappy rare like Manabarbs is, you want to look at playable commons and uncommons in the booster. Often is better to take Pacifism or Doom Blade as a first pick than to try playing bad rare card. I’ve seen discussion on the Channel Fireball about whether is better to take Mind Control over Sun Titan. Drafters agree that Mind Control is always two for one card, and that Titan can be only 6/6 creature for the most time. I can’t justify taking Mind Control over Sun Titan, but I can see that kind of drafting is giving resuts. And that is all that matters.

So, I took lifelink bloodthirst Vampires over Manabarbs. Manabarbs is really useless card, but in that booster there was a Gravedigger, very good car in this format. If I’m going to pick some creature bomb, he essentially gives me two bombs.

From my humble experience, I learned that flyers are what you need to win the game, so I started drafting many cheap flying creatures, which could be found in white and even black.

Second booster I pulled Phantasmal Image, currently worth 2,75 tixes, so I drafted him, but were it not the case, I’d take Griffin Sentinel. Griffin is very good card, as it has toughness of 3, and even vigilance, so he stops most cheap dudes from hurting you. On the other hand, if you draft enough Griffin Riders, you can essentially attack with 4/4 flying creature on turn three.

Pick two from pack two was easy, DAY OF JUDGMENT! I love that card; it is very good in this format. DoJ is even good if you have aggro deck, and this edition is creature heavy, so if opponent has some nasty creatures on his side, this is mass removal for all that. It was easy pick and gift from the side.

I managed to pick two Gravediggers and Roc Egg, using Gravediggers to dig up the Egg when needed. 3/3 flying creature is here a big deal.

If you are playing heavy white, Armored Warhorse is great. For two mana, you get 2/3 creature which is able to block Phantasmal Bear and don’t die out of it. Bear is here huge agro creature, it usually hits for 4 or 6 damage before opponent finds the way to deal with him. I saw many blue red decks which had more than few Phantasmal Bears in it, and they kicked asses.

Gideon’s Lawkeeper is very good card, very needed in every white or even partially white deck. He enables you to tap any threat on the field, and unlike Pacifism, you don’t need to commit him to one creature. If you are ever in situation to pick between him and some other creature, don’t hesitate, pick him. I even saw him picked before Serra Angel.

All in all, this was very sweet deck, so I went 3-0 with it. It rocked against anything on the table, I wasn’t afraid of any bomb. It was just too fast for them.
