M12 draft #1

Aug 09, 2011 No Comments by

Hi guys! I can’t tell you how excited I’m because there is finally M12 on MTGO. I couldn’t make it for prerelease and release to go to our local store because of all the work I’ve got at home, but I did manage to find some time to play an online draft.

I haven’t looked at what archetypes decks are going ok, I wanted to go for the fly and try wherever draft brings me. It all started like this:

First pick was easy. Throne of Empires. I must admit that I personally scored this card very low, but after few comments and internal discussions with Barker, I wanted to try out this card. It showed really good. Although I assembled whole set, I never got all three cards in any game. It was unfortunate, as I’ve got a lot more fun if I ever played the whole set.

Second pick was Incinerate, over Pacifism, as I’ve already missed Gideon’s tapper and Serra Angel. I thought that there will be at least two guys who’ll pick white. It was a mistake, as you can see it later on.

Third pick is Pegasus, because look at those seven blue cards. Everyone is going to play blue, so now I’m going into white.

Griffin Sentinel is ok, especially if you draft more of those and that guy who gets bigger if there is griffin in play.

After those picks I saw a late jade Mage, so I switched to green. Nothing too shabby afterwards, but there were some playables in later picks.

I told myself, well I’m going to get a black Titan, as I didn’t saw any black cards, well none good anyway. Surprise, surprise, it was a Grave Titan. What I’m going to do with him? He is not in any of my three colours, so I had to splash him. I choose to do that.

Second pick was a Phantasmal Image, because it was obvious if someone plays it against me, I’m not going to easy resolve that. And it’s because it’s worth tixes. In few picks afterwards, I manage to draft one more Jade Mage and manalith, well needed if I’m going to splash a Titan.

Third pack is, guess what, Flameblast Dragon. Yes, I saw that Serra Angel, but I just didn’t care about it. It was too good to take Flameblast Dragon. Yes, I know I’m crazy, but ever since I watched how a random noob owning LSV at his first draft, I knew I’m going to get well with this deck.

First round was a bit problematic, as I got white flyers, but that wasn’t enough. I needed more power, because he also had a Throne of Empires, in conjuction with those black bug who gets bigger when eats someone.

I splashed Grave Titan, so deck looked like this. Thanks to two naturalises I picked up, I manage to win that round 2-1.

Second round was equally as good as the first, as the guy had Gideon Jura by his side. Thanks to splashing Grave Titan in next two games, I manage to get through Gideon (literally) and win that round too.

Third round I played against some red green aggro bloodthirst deck. I didn’t even need to splash a Titan, I won 2-0.

I got extremely lucky on this draft, so I won three boosters and sold Grave Titan and Phantasmal Image for 7 tixes. It was more than I expected! Good draft, this one, so stay tuned for more very soon!
