M12, limited set review: WHITE 1/2

M12 is fully spoiled and we can proceed onto another edition of our regular LIMITED SET REVIEW!

We’re starting with color white, so without further ado, let’s go!

Aegis Angel

Angels are usually insane in limited and this one is no different. You can play him, give indestructibility to some other creature and attack with it with no fear of combat trading happening. And when you untap with it, well, then you’re left with 5/5 flyer on your side of the field. One of the bombs.

8/10

Alabaster Mage

As I said before: cycle of uncommon mages is just absurd. This guy is 3rd or 4th best among them, and he’s still nuts. With him on the battlefield you should never be worried about losing a race with your opponent.

6/10

Angelic Destiny

This is the first mythic enchantment – aura, if I’m not mistaken and it shows. With this, you can turn any of your guys into a flying beast, and if your opponent somehow finds a way to deal with it, you can just reattach it to another creature. Beating this card will be extremely hard if you don’t have some bounce spell, Pacifism etc.

9/10

Angel’s Mercy

Maybe if your opponent is playing some red aggro deck with couple of Lava Axes but even then I’d be extremely unhappy with running this.

2/10

Arbalest Elite

This type of cards was always very useful in core sets and this one is nice as well. It’s a bit tough you have to leave 3 mana open every time, but it’s worth it.

6/10

Archon of Justice

This is an Air Elemental who exiles a permanent when it dies, what more do you need to know!

8/10

Armored Warhorse

This is traditionally a green card, but it suits white color as well. It’s a decent card, if you need playables or you’re running an aggressive deck (or you maybe need a target for Angelic Destiny) this is a card for you.

5/10

Assault Griffin

Hard hitting, premium flyer. It’s common so this is a pillar of a good white or blue-white flying deck.

7/10

Auramancer

I don’t think this is really good. I’d have to run solid amount of enchantments (some of them auras) before putting this in my deck. It could be good with some aura removals though.

3/10

Benalish Veteran

This creature attacks with 3 power. For it’s cost of only 3 mana, that is pretty good. I’d definitely run him in any semi-aggressive build.

5/10

Celestial Purge

Celestial Purge, as always, is not really a maindeckable card but it’s one of the best sideboard cards out there.

4/10

Day of Judgment

So, we have another core set with Day of Judgment. Seems like Wrath of God is long forgotten and this is a new standard mass removal. And as such, it is pretty powerful and should be played most of the time. When you have it in your opening hand and they don’t know about it, it’s very easy to blow them out. And in second game, when they do know about it they’ll always play around it in fear, so you can again gain some advantage.

8/10

Demystify

Again, pretty good sideboard card against Pacifism, Mind Control and so on, but not so good in maindeck.

3/10

Divine Favor

Has 2 abilities but it’s not so good. Maybe against red where its both abilities could be relevant.

3/10

Elite Vanguard

M11 draft format by it’s end was a pretty aggressive environment. And this card gained a lot of value since that moment and was heavily played. We’ll see what will happen in M12 but this could be very good.

5/10

Gideon Jura

Ah, good old Gideon Jura. Insane as ever in limited, you’re not going to lose many games after you play this guy.

10/10

Gideon’s Avenger

When you play this, I really don’t know what should they do. Attack? Not attack? There’s really no good option. An excellent card.

7/10

Gideon’s Lawkeeper

Looks like everything with Gideon’s stamp on it is insane. I think we all remember how good tapper was in M11 and this one is even better since his casting cost is only 1 mana. And guess what? There is no pinger in this set which makes this guy broken as hell.

7/10

Grand Abolisher

He’s not insane or anything, but I would play him in any white deck for sure. There’s really many small things he can do and situations he can make problems for your opponents.

5/10

Griffin Rider

There’s only 3 griffins but all of them are commons, so if you manage to draft like 6-7 of them I’d play this one. Yeah, it seems pretty unlikely…

3/10

About the author

My M:tG career is not too long: my first prerelease was Xth core edition, so I've been playing for about 4 years now. As I started playing I've been enchanted by it and been playing it avidly since, but unlike majority of Magic players I’m interested in all sorts of TCG’s so you can expect articles and reviews about at least dozen other games here on TCGHell! Stay tuned!
